Linux Installation Instructions
"Express setup" executable version of Z88 for SuSE LINUX 8.1 and RedHat LINUX 8.0:
How to do it:
  • Make sure that the browser Mozilla and the editor Nedit are installed. How to check the installation ? rpm -q mozilla and rpm -q nedit. Install these two packages if they are missing. Both programs are included with SuSE LINUX 8.1 and RedHat LINUX 8.0
  • Install Z88 as root by rpm -i z88-10.0-1.i386.rpm
  • Launch Z88 as a normal user from any (working) directory by z88
  • The manuals (English and German) in PDF format are filed under /usr/share/doc/packages/z88
"Ready to Run" LINUX executable version of Z88:
How to do it:
  • Copy the packed file z88.tar.gz into any directory of your choice, e.g., /home/johndoe/z88
  • Unpack it by gunzip z88.tar.gz
  • Untar it by tar -xvf z88.tar
  • if necessary, chmod 777 *
  • Read the README file
  • Start your X-System, open an X-Term and fire away with z88com
C- sources for Z88 for UNIX:
How to do it:
You need: C compiler, e.g. gcc, make and X11- and Motif development system (OpenMotif, Lesstif)
  • Copy the packed file z88src.tar.gz into any directory of your choice, e.g., /home/johndoe/z88
  • Unpack it by gunzip z88src.tar.gz
  • Untar it by tar -xvf z88src.tar
  • if necessary, chmod 777 *
  • Read the README file, then read chapter 1.3 of the Z88 manual and compile: for LINUX: COMPILE.LINUX, for SGI's: COMPILE.SGI, for HP's: COMPILE.HP

Windows Installation Instructions
"Ready to Run" LINUX executable version of Z88 for Windows:
How to do it:
  • Copy the self-extracting file z88rune.exe into any directory of your choice, e.g., C:\Z88
  • Unpack it by gunzip z88.tar.gz
  • run z88rune.exe
  • if necessary, chmod 777 *
  • Read the README file
  • Start z88com
if this won't work, get z88rune.zip, unzip it and proceed with README, chapter 1.2 of the Z88 manual. Start z88com.
C- sources for Z88 for Windows:
How to do it:
You need: C or C++ compiler, e.g. LCC (free, consult the internet), Borland C++ Builder or Microsoft Visual C++.
  • Copy the packed file z88src.zip into any directory of your choice, e.g., C:\Z88
  • Unpack it.
  • Read the README file, then read chapter 1.2 of the Z88 manual and compile. Of course, compiling the Z88 package for Windows is only required if you want to add your own improvements to Z88. Otherwise, install the Ready-to-run package.
